By Hand London Hannah Wrap Top
I have found it! The ever elusive wrap top/dress that doesn’t gape! I am talking about the By Hand London Hannah wrap dress/top. I made mine in moonstone viscose by Atelier Brunette in the green colour way.
An honourable mention also needs to be awarded to the fact that I am a cheapskate that was on a mission. Cutting Tetris skills and bloody mindedness meant that I managed to squeeze this from 1m of fabric!
This is a really straightforward make. Due to the absence of closures this could be tackled by a beginner, especially if a cotton or linen were used.
Speaking of the lack of buttons, zips etc, this also makes it perfect for someone who struggles with dressing independently. I have a fused scapular, so I can’t take clothes off over my head without help as my right arm doesn’t raise right up. The under wrap portion is tied together so there isn’t event a need to wrap one tie around the waist, which involves reaching arms around the back.
The top sits nicely at the waistline with the skirt skimming the tummy and hips. The style allows plenty of expansion room for big meals or those who have stomach bloating issues.
I cut the size 6 which gave me a good fit across the shoulders, and there was no need to do my usual narrow shoulder adjustment. I did a 1/2″SBA and added 2″ at the waist. I think next time I will need to lower the bust dart slightly.
There are some beautiful features on this pattern, and now that I am happy with my fit adjustments, I will happily commit to taking scissors to 3m of fabric to make a dress version with that beautiful bishop sleeve.

Great dress. You only needed one meter. Wow.

Thank you Muriel! I made it as the top version. It’s great to have another pattern option for smaller cuts of fabric.

Can you explain how you do the SBA? I’m needing to do one myself and dont really know where to begin. Thank you!

Hi Amy, so sorry I didn’t see and reply to this sooner! The By Hand London page is a great resource for doing an SBA on a bodice with a bust and waist dart. If you need further help on the final stage of truing the wrap, please let me know and I’ll post a tutorial!
