Colour analysis by Georgia @1stitchforward

As a graduate in my 20’s entering the workforce, I had a pretty good idea of what clothing worked for me. I found dressing for the corporate formal environment easy, and was happy with my casual weekend wardrobe.

Fast forward to my mid-late 30’s; 2 children later, and a chronic health condition means I spend a lot of time at home. My sense of self had become increasingly confused. This was reflected in a chaotic wardrobe of clothes which seem to fall in the following categories:

  • Clothes that no longer suited my lifestyle
  • Clothes that suited my lifestyle in terms of comfort and practicality; but made me feel I have given up on life when I wear them!

Something had to give. I felt a good starting point would be to have some direction in terms of realising what colours/prints suited me. I had considered colour analysis before, but I didn’t want to be told what to wear/not to wear. I needed a gentle but structured framework to figure out this mess I call my wardrobe!

After listening to Stitchers Brew podcast on how colour can effect the way we present ourselves to the world, I had the feeling Giorgia could help me. We had a quick chat on the phone to set expectations and I decided to give colour analysis a try.

What I came away with far exceeded any expectations I had when booking the appointment. A huge part of what worked so well was the fact that Giorgia is so personable. I was expecting a reasonably ‘clinical’ experience from finding what colours suit me, but Giorgia managed to fully personalise the process. She helped me to not only find the colours that work, but also draw out my sense of style preferences that I didn’t know were there.

When I returned home I could instantly see which pieces were no longer ‘me’. Additionally and perhaps more importantly, I saw new life in things I hadn’t worn in a long time. I also learned what to do with items that I still loved but now realised weren’t great for my colouring.

For me, I feel I learned a skill. It wasn’t about throwing out everything that isn’t in my colour palette and buying new. I can now make confident choices when selecting clothes, accessories and makeup that will bring a more cohesive look.

Thank you Giorgia!
