What is Osteogenesis Imperfecta?
11/01/2020
Osteogenesis Imperfecta (OI) is a genetic disorder which results in lack of or poor quality collagen. As collagen is the building block of the bones and soft tissue, it can have a wide range of symptoms, and the severity varies hugely from one person to the next.
The main characteristic of OI is brittle bones. I have had many fractures (I don’t know the number, maybe around 30 – not including toes, ribs and fingers) hearing loss, hypermobile joints and easy bruising and bleeding.
